Takoway follows the story of Tako, a pink octopus trapped by humans in a cold, sterile lab. As the player, your goal is to help Tako escape. But the road to freedom isn’t easy—there are puzzles at every turn, and only by solving them can Tako move closer to breaking free.
The game uses a dual-perspective mechanic, allowing you to switch between inside and outside views by swiping left or right. At times, you can also stop the dividing line in the middle, letting Tako pass directly between spaces. As the story progresses, you’ll meet other creatures, each with unique abilities that can help overcome new challenges.
The objective is simple: guide Tako to touch the blue button to complete each level. If you finish within a set number of moves, you’ll earn a speed-run bonus. Here, a "move" means how many times you tap the screen—not how many tiles Tako travels. To succeed, you’ll need both smart planning and careful execution, making every tap count.
The story in Takoway is told through animations, which you can view in the main menu once unlocked. Since the characters are animals, there’s no dialogue or text. But thanks to expressive actions and emotions, the story remains clear and easy to follow, even without words.
