Beyond basic illumination, however, light also serves as a powerful signal. Today’s app, Lumolight, takes full advantage of the flashlight’s potential by adding smart, thoughtful features. At its core, Lumolight lets you control the flashlight, and it also syncs with your phone screen to provide additional lighting. The app offers three preset lighting modes: screen only, screen and flashlight together, and flashlight only. When using the “screen” mode, the app instantly turns your display into a bright white light at full brightness. This offers surprisingly effective illumination—great for walking at night, where it not only lights up your path but also makes your face visible to others in the dark.
In the “Screen” settings tab, you can choose how long the screen stays lit, with options ranging from 1 minute to 120 minutes. You can also customize the screen color during illumination—red, orange, yellow, green, cyan, blue, and purple are all available, and even black (though the use of a black light remains a bit of a mystery). You can also adjust the brightness level for the screen lighting, anywhere from 20% to 100%.
In the “Flashlight” control section, you can similarly adjust how long the light stays on. The app also allows you to set the strobe frequency in beats per minute (bpm); 0 bpm means no strobe, while higher numbers result in faster flashing. Once the light starts strobing, you can fine-tune the flashlight’s brightness as well—a very practical feature for those who need it, and helpful for avoiding excessive glare that might disturb others.
Speaking of flashing lights, the SOS emergency signal is a must-have feature. Lumolight places this option at the top of the app interface for quick access. When activated, not only does the flashlight flash at a preset frequency, but the phone screen also alternates between red and white, making the distress signal highly visible and more likely to be noticed.
